Meditation: essence 1

We’re back! Let’s bring something from the week-long retreat to the morning practice: essence.

The term “essence” was not a feature of discussion, per se, but featured strongly in people’s experiences as we meditated. That was evident in their sharings and the glow that pervaded the field and frequently radiated from individuals.

Let’s set our online morning practice with a quotation from Dujom Lingpa: “Since pure awareness of nowness is the real buddha, in openness and contentment I found the lama in my heart.” The Vajra Essence, vol 3, pg. xv.

We have been opening to nowness and awareness for a while now in the morning practice. Is it “pure awareness” and Dujom Lingpa’s nonconceptual nowness? Not for this practitioner. Not yet. But, the tastes of Presence, nowness, simplicity, and awareness “in its seat” keep me oriented and orienting to the “pure” of the moment, the “now” that IS the only now for any of us. Humbled, I bow to simplicity, with the sense that whatever simple openness is, it is a worthwhile direction (inward, that is).

May you discover pure awareness now!
