advancing meditation: Freedom – Patanjali 3

This week begins with simplicity via the Yoga Sutras. We’ve sat with simplicity before since it is a qualitative experience of Awareness as It is; but this morning simplicity was generated by “freedom from wanting.” Sutra II. 39 states, “Freedom from wanting unlocks the real purpose of existence.”

This sutra provides myriad points for contemplation. What is freedom, what is purpose, what is meant by “existence,” and how does “wanting” imprison one/us? These contemplations and any others that arise for you are encouraged through your day but were not the nature of our meditation.

A simplicity set in early in the sitting. That was our instruction and its result.
