Mantra is a technique used in many meditation practices and at all levels of meditation. Mantra is a Sanskrit word and means “to protect the mind.” Man is part of the word manas which means mind (in the wide way that Eastern traditions refer to mind), and tra means to protect. One uses mantra to protect the mind from low vibrating thoughts and distraction.
Some people use repeated thoughts and words in a reverse way; such as when someone has repetitive negative thoughts about him or herself or repeatedly calls a child, spouse, or section of humanity “stupid” or “lazy” or other disparaging statements. This behavior is not mantra.
We will use mantra this week. The one today is “May all beings awaken.”
