Next: about 8 pounds of onions are cleaned and processed in the fridge. Walking onions (Egyptian onions) do not need to be cured.
And: more of the beds near the house.
These beds are on the house side of the driveway. The back half had tomatoes last season and this year again. The front end is experiment: chard, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, chamomile, snap peas, yukima, cilantro, basil and purple bush beans. Almost everything from seeds gathered last season or that left over from last season’s seed purchases. (cold storage, of course!)
This long bed gets morning sun and by 2 pm is shade. Observation shows that:
- the broccoli and cauliflower got bigger than last year’s out in the back garden; meaning that they shaded the chard and kale. Rearranging the plant order next season will be done.
- cosmos is at the beginning of this long bed (not pictured) and doing great.
- the peas and beans need less water than all the rest. Reorganize who goes where next season with this in mind.
- the yukima (like a miniature pak choy) has already been harvested. Will reseed with the new moon. It was let go to seed last season. Still have plenty.
- the basil loves being at the end of the row. Morning sun, then dappled by the tomato plant, then cool afternoon shade. Will plant more in this bed next season.
- and, morning glories have popped up everywhere! including one between the tomatoes. Will try to guide it up to go along the top of the wood fence.
And, below, is the view from my front door in the morning.

Lovely!
