A peaceful mind can bring peace into the world.
In support of that, we remind ourselves of three simple and connected methods that promote a peaceful mind.
-
- ground: Literally bring your attention to your feet when your mind or emotions are racing or when your attention has been kidnapped by a screen. Ground yourself. Get embodied. Feel the ground; your mind will ground and ground of being will be present as will Mother Earth.
- center: Shortly after a pause or abiding in place feeling your feet on the ground, the breath will come into the foreground of your experience. Be with the breath. It is in the center; your mind will center.
- altitude or depth: Now that you have regained composure and calm, you can add either height or depth. Height is enhanced by following the in-breath up to its top. This promotes detachment, perspective, and a bigger picture – all of which disentangle the self. Depth is enhanced by following the out-breath down to the heart. Doing so supports empathy, listening, calmness, and warm-heartedness. All of these are focused on the person you are with or a collective other.
Our meditation is one of abiding.
