Gardening like Nature

Finally, the views and “rules” on gardening have changed. Little by little, those who have been ahead of the masses like people at Findhorn or permaculture enthusiasts, those who companion plant, and organic farmers and gardeners, are now proven scientifically to be doing the right and helpful thing. Yeah!!

Here are some videos. All of them inspiring and inviting each of us to support biodiversity, backyard habitat, and small things that each of us can do that are really significant to LIFE.

Meditation: listen deeply

One facet of a sitting practice is listening. Such sitting and listening can be on a park bench or one’s backyard, the rooftop of an apartment building, or anywhere that one is.

Listen! was the first instruction of the quote from the Kunjed Gyalpo  tantra. There are limitless reasons why. One is simply that listening is to be open, to be present, and humble in the moment of shared existence.

Meditation: all creating

For a few weeks, we contemplated and meditated with a four-word quotation from the Kunjed Gyalpo tantra: “Listen! Understand! Meditate! Experience!”

With this meditation session, we look at the meaning of the words Kunjed Gyalpo which translate as all creating king (the latter I re-term as sovereign). In other words, we are all creating, all the time. At first pondering, we might bump into our self-created entanglements, then into stories and habits of consciousness. But, if we are brave and continue to probe and ponder, we discover empowerment; and we empower ourselves.

Garden: Happy Spring 4: blossoming

Food for all kinds of beings!

Currant bushes are the first fruit-bearing plants to blossom. They’ve been doing so for a week. Their flowers smell like honeysuckle and are tube-shaped. They and dandelions are the first pollinator food in this back yard. The type of currant being grown is for the birds and pollinators. The berries are not human-tasty.

Two weeks earlier than usual, the Plum trees are blossoming. Apple trees will be in 7-10 days. They’re budding out.

The cold weather crops have been in the ground for a week. All are doing well. We had a light snow on Friday night and temperatures around 30 most of last week. Perfect for these crops.

And, want to show you another experiment done this Spring. Over 50 Rainbow Chard seeds were planted in one of the plastic window boxes and set in my neighbor’s house when the heat was still turned off (with permission). They are growing well. I have scooped out plants and set them in small starter pots to give to neighbors and friends (already done) or to sell here in Jaroso. At least 15 starter pots; most have two plants. A $buck a piece, I figure. My garden received at least 5 plants, and might do a few more. The rest I will use as baby chard in salads and in stir fries. It was an excellent experiment!
