Oh no

A friend sent me this article, with “Oh no” as the subject line. I agree.

Rice being genetically modified with genes from the human liver

How? What? My mind wants to freeze with the common sense and repulsion flooding it. This article from the UK reports that this is being done to strengthen the rice against the herbicides being used on the non-rice growing in the same field. So instead of investing money, research, common sense, and development into farming practices that are beneficial to the rice, soil, air, water, and the human beings or animals eating rice, money, time, effort, and propaganda is being used on creating a franken-rice. Which type of rice, by the way, we are not told.

Over an over again, I find myself asking “Where is the wisdom?” How is this considered right?
